As a web & UX designer, learning & digital strategist, and project leader, I work with world-class universities, nonprofit organizations, and emerging startups from the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
As Director of Web & User Experience, led the rebuilding and re-branding of the Berkeley Graduate Division web, the primary portal for graduate admissions and services for the #1 Public University in the world.
Our team conducted UX design and research methods including personas, user interviews, surveys, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and deep data analysis of a decade of usage trends. This project was part of a 10-site CMS and web platform migration.
Our web team worked on this project as part of the campus-wide re-branding campaign. Also, the site was developed to automatically build GradNews, an HTML-formatted newsletter sent to all 10,000 grad students each month. The automation means we can build and send the richly designed and mobile-friendly GradNews in less than an hour.Graduate Division website, circa spring 2015
Led redesign project as the Senior Digital Strategy Consultant for the League — a 100-year-old organization responsible for protecting the planet's remaining ancient redwood forests.
Designed and integrated Convio giving pages, re-architected and migrated to a new CMS and hosting platform, and created customized content entry views for staff. Mobile-responsive and accessible built using LESS/HTML5/jQuery on the Bootstrap framework.
In my 12 years as a Senior Consultant for the League, I steered the organization through four major redesigns, two CMS migrations, two giving and email application migrations, won numerous awards, and fell in love with the magnificent trees.
I continue to act as an advisor, but have handed over the reigns to capable colleagues.
Working with campus faculty, admissions advisers, technical staff and senior leadership, led the design of the Graduate Admissions Review System — critical campus admissions software used to review, collaboratively assess, and recommend students for admission. Conducted extensive UX methods including journey maps, in-person review sessions, and developed functional prototypes.
This project involved presentations to large groups, stakeholders, faculty, departments, and many staff. The challenge of the project was designing a system that worked for a variety of methods used by departments to review candidates, supporting online and offline collaboration.
Project Lead on the Graduate Student Professional Development Guide and program launch co-producer of Graduate Professional Services, a collaborative initiative laying the groundwork for innovations in how the University helps prepare graduate students for career paths beyond academia.
A multi-department effort involving senior faculty, staff, and student groups, the core of the project is a database of campus-wide professional development events and resources, and an integrated communications strategy that syndicates these events and resources to all grad students through email campaigns.
I've been working on the web for over 15 years and have been involved on many, many dozens of projects.
This site (for now) represents an extremely thin slice of what I've done.
